There is not always an easy answer to this question. Feel free to email us with a small jpg photo or description of your film.
With regular 8mm movie film, the film is run through the
camera twice, so the film looks the same both before and after
exposure. Generally, photographers would not remove the film from
the box or remove the tape that runs around the seam of the can
until they were ready to shoot. Some photographers would replace the
tape so that it runs across the top of the can to indicate the film
was exposed. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to
process the film.
With super 8 film, if there is no film in the window or you can see the word exposed or a hole in the film, it has been fully exposed. Generally, photographers would not remove the film from the box or foil until they were ready to shoot. If you can see film, but not the word exposed or a hole, it is possible that the film was partially exposed.
With print or slide films, usually either a sticker with the word exposed is wrapped around the film or film is no longer visible. If you can see a number, this is usually the number of pictures that have been taken.
Rush service may be available at a premium price and a roll count minimum. Please call for prices and to schedule your services. RUSH SERVICES MUST BE SCHEDULED IN ADVANCE. We do not generally recommend rush services due to the age of film involved.
If you want to check on the progress of your order, please write us at Department: "Status" or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will receive a reply by mail or email. Many times a phone inquiry will necessitate a lengthy long distance phone call, and we may not be able to provide detailed information on your film if it has just arrived or is in the production department.

The biggest factors which determine outcome are heat and moisture. If a film has been exposed to extreme heat, warm temperatures for a long time, or soaked in moisture, the chances of getting pictures is reduced, but never eliminated. If the film has been exposed properly and has been kept in a refrigerator or freezer, the chances very good (90% or better) that we will be able to get an image regardless of the age of the film. If it has been kept in a closet or drawer, chances are reduced slightly. If it has been kept in a hot attic or soaked with moisture, the chances are greatly reduced. Occasionally, fairly recent films have marginal results because they were exposed to extreme conditions. On the other hand, there is no age limit to obtaining images--we have developed films from the early 1900s and produced above-par images.
Why are the service times long? Why is there no guarantee or refund?
Your film is very important to us. We exercise special care with every roll. Every effort is made to obtain the best possible results. We cannot control factors such as age, fog, heat, x-rays and radiation; but we try to compensate for these problems on an individual roll basis. Many of the films are developed by hand in small batches. Most of the chemistry is mixed by hand in small quantities because prepared chemistry is no longer available. We also add special chemical agents to compensate for age fog. The labor intensive processes involved in treating each roll individually makes it expensive to process your film; but this produces the best possible results. We feel it is worth the extra effort.
BECAUSE OF THE AGE AND NATURE OF THESE FILMS AND PROCESSES, WE DO NOT OFFER ANY GUARANTEE. NO REFUND IS AVAILABLE REGARDLESS OF RESULTS. SERVICE TIMES SUBJECT TO CHANGE DEPENDING ON VOLUME, MACHINE, AND MATERIAL AVAILABILITY.
OUR GUARANTEE TO YOU IS THAT WE WILL DO OUR VERY BEST TO OBTAIN YOUR MEMORIES AND THE BEST POSSIBLE IMAGE FROM YOUR FILM.
